2010 was an outstanding year for the Printemps de Septembre: it celebrated 20 years of activity with an edition devoted to a specific practice that has (once again) become central to contemporary art : performance. Furthermore, it was accompanied by two new events, one in Cahors and the other at Domaine Pommery, by way of a tribute to the institutional and private partners who have accompanied us through the years and helped us to produce new art works.
The 2011 edition, entrusted to Anne Pontégnie, is placed under the sign of “another world,” as its title makes very clear. The idea is to discover artists whose work draws on elementary energies that art has tended to neglect over the last thirty-odd years in favour of a constant rereading of the modernist heritage. “Actions, traces, totems, ceremonies and invocations will,” in the words of the artistic director, be among the tools or the references used by a whole family of artists in its search for new forms of expression.
The Printemps is innovating again this year by occupying several building, where it is inaugurating its International Festival of Art Schools. It is also joining forces with the Occitània Festival, the Mission Locale and Toulouse University to develop special projects.
Supported by its faithful partners, foremost among whom is the municipality of Toulouse, the Printemps is persevering in its mission as intermediary between the world of art and a public with a growing hunger for meaning.
