Born 1975 in Toledo (Spain), lives and works in Brooklyn (USA).
Substance and material are uppermost in the paintings that Alex Hubbard makes with collages, drips, scratches and other manipulations. On the canvas we can see the “cuisine” done in the studio, the bricolage, the accident, the botches and the corrections.
A selection of recent paintings will be shown at les Abattoirs – Musée Frac Occitanie Toulouse. Two films by Alex Hubbard will be exhibited facing the paintings.The painting is the main character. Like a conjuror, Alex Hubbard, a kind of art-world Buster Keaton, humorously and felicitously strings together events, whether they seem major or minor, triggering small or big catastrophes on the canvas, at once background, screen, the canvas of the picture, and the painting.
